In 12 years as Assemblyman, I have been a consistent advocate for education. I restored aide to all our local school districts, limiting property tax growth, while preserving quality education.

I have been a staunch supporter of the Say Yes to Education Program since it came to Syracuse. The program guarantees college tuition to Syracuse City School students who participate in educational programs, tutoring sessions and academic support programs.

I am fighting to make sure that our children get a sound, basic education in all our public schools. Throughout my time in the Assembly, I have been a strong and consistent advocate for adequate education funding for our children. Because of my efforts, education funding has doubled over the last 10 years. 

I will continue to advocate for increased funding until our local schools receive all of the money they were promised in the settlement of the Citizens for Fiscal Equity case. To achieve this goal, I have sponsored legislation to replace the existing school aid formula with a more equitable formula designed by the Statewide School Finance Consortium.
