Rick Guy's Distortions
vs. the Truth

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Voted to increase taxes and spending every year in the Assembly

FACT:  I held the line on spending while increasing state aid for schools in the 120th district by over $150 million each year, helping to hold the line on property taxes.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Nothing done to create jobs in Central New York

FACT:  I helped create and save hundreds of jobs in Central New York through fostering public/private partnerships and helping secure grants for local companies such as Crucible to help them stay open.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Took away our STAR Tax Rebate

FACT:  Nothing has changed on the basic STAR or Senior STAR property tax reduction programs, which provide a majority of STAR benefits. The STAR Tax Rebate check was a 2-year program when the State had a surplus. This year the state would have had to borrow the money to continue the rebate.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Nothing accomplished as the Chair of the Legislative Ethics Commission

FACT:  I pushed through one of the most comprehensive ethics reform bills in the nation that was praised by good government groups, including NYPIRG, the League of Women Voters, and Citizens Union.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Support of abortion in all cases

FACT:  I do not personally support abortion; however, I will always stand up for a women’s right to choose.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Voted for GENDA legislation, allowing men dressed as women into women’s bathrooms

FACT:  GENDA is a civil rights bill that prevents transgender New Yorkers from discrimination. Thirteen states and the District of Columbia, as well as many New York localities already have laws like GENDA. Not one prohibits or has done away with gender-segregated restroom or locker facilities, and there are no reports of any disruption from or abuse of these laws.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Handed Hollywood $2.1 billion of our tax dollars

FACT:  Both the NYS Senate and the Assembly passed a tax incentive of $450,000 per year for 5 years to film companies to produce movies, videos etc in New York State. It is a return on the investment they put into New York’s economy. The local film industry in Onondaga County has strongly supported these credits. Several movies have been filmed in Onondaga County in the last few years because of incentives such as this one.

GUY’S DISTORTIONS: Sealed criminal records and voted for early parole for convicts

FACT:  In repealing the Rockefeller Drug Laws, we passed legislation that put the power of individual case review in the hands of the courts and judges, including the ability to provide early parole to those who are serving long sentences under the older, out-of-date guidelines, versus the shorter sentences called for under the new law. For example, if someone was serving a ten years sentence under the old law, for a crime which now calls for only a two year sentence, and if the person has already served three years, a judge, after review, could grant an early parole because of the new laws sentencing structure.

RICK GUY CONTINUES HIS NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN AND OFFERS NO POSITIVE PLANS FOR CREATING JOBS, SUPPORTING EDUCATION OR DELIVERING RESOURCES TO THE FAMILIES OF THE 120TH DISTRICT.
